Overview

The Health and Safety Specialist is key to promoting a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, contractors, customers and visitors and partnering with leadership to ensure the health and safety of the employees.

This role will be relied upon to upgrade our HSE culture and ensure all regional specific safety requirements are being managed, supporting all safety program elements.

Details

The Health and Safety Specialist works cross-functionally all Plant operations, management, Production, Training, and Engineering & Product Development in addition to our Maintenance and Continuous Improvement teams.

  • Promote and support our Safety First culture to team members.
  • Clearly identify, understand and implement Amhil’s safety requirements, and when applicable, the client’s HSE requirements for the project and/or worksite.
  • Verify the applicability and effectiveness of HSE program through site audits, incident reviews, industry best practices, and consultation with employees.
  • Maintain knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace health, safety and environment regulations.
  • Partner with local leadership to ensure company compliance.
  • Identify and coordinate safety training programs as required.
  • Audit site compliance to Amhil’s HSE requirements and communicate HSE issues or concerns to Management and Leadership.
  • Support leadership by providing safety moments and topics for employee mentorship/learning.
  • Participate as Management Co-chair in Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Conduct “Tool Box Talk” with team members pertaining to Health & Safety, Company Policies, importance of PPE, Emergency Procedures, etc.
  • Report all HSE incidents to the management team.
  • Investigate and prepare all workplace incident and injury reports, following up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Provide safety orientation and training for all employees, contractors and visitors to ensure understanding of potential risks and expected behaviours.
  • Conduct effective hazard analyses to ensure Safe Work Procedures are current and complete for all jobs/tasks.
  • Ensure appropriate safety supplies are identified and purchased in a timely and cost effective manner and monitor their usage.
  • Lead management of WSIB claims and RTW process.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • Provide guidance on the Amhil HSE Manual.
  • Conduct site inspections.
  • Monitor subcontractors.
  • Etc.

  • Knowledge of plastic manufacturing processes an asset
  • We’ll teach you the rest!

  • CRSP designation
  • COR Audit processes
  • Experience in thermoforming industry.
